GNOMISH I've always felt somewhat sorry for gnomes. No racial armor or weapons, rather like a project someone became bored with and never finished. I have a few modest suggestions to rectify that oversight. ARMOR: These gnomes are apparently poor metallurgists but are rather handy with a pair of knitting needles. The result is rather a mixed bag. On the upside their armor is of the lightest weight, none of it interferes with spell-casting and they are the sole race with their own shirt and gloves. On the downside none of their armor has any intrinsic AC, can only be enchanted to +5 and can provide no more than MC1. The unidentified appearance is in parentheses: Gnomish Helm (knitted cap) AC:0 Wt:5 MC:0 Cloth Gnomish Shirt (knitted shirt) AC 0 Wt:5 MC:0 Cloth Gnomish Mail (knitted vest) AC:0 Wt:20 MC:0 Cloth Gnomish Cloak (knitted shawl) AC:0 Wt:20 MC:1 Cloth Gnomish Gauntlets (knitted mittens) AC:0 Wt:5 MC:0 Cloth Gnomish Boots (knitted slippers) AC:0 Wt:10 MC:0 Cloth Despite their rather inflated descriptions, gnomish gear is quite poor. But it's better than nothing, which is currently the case. Fully enchanted and with no protection it provides -20 AC but with a weight of a mere 65 (whatever nh weight units are called). It is assumed the majority of this stuff would be generated in gnome monster inventories. WEAPON: These gnomes shall have a single multipurpose weapon, the 3.6.1 aklys. It will provide both their ranged and melee weapons, meaning they can throw them. Its identified name will appear as a Gnomish Aklys. All else about the weapon will be unchanged. In summary, this is simply a mental exercise on my part. But hopefully, should it ever be implemented, no longer will racial gnomes be required to ascend butt-naked... every@ma.sdf.org
